Old Market Hereford Shops Close Early
dippyhippy replied to Colin James's topic in Edgar Street Grid and Courtyard Theatre
And yet just a few weeks back, Mr Johnson wrote a letter to the Hereford Times, proclaiming that all was fine and dandy and going great! I said then we were still in the "honeymoon period." I would say that this time next year would be a better time to evaluate it's success. And by success, I also mean taking into consideration the impact on High Town, be that positive or negative. It really is too soon to say either way, but this certainly isn't a promising indication. -
Thanks for posting this most poignant image, Colin. A very emotional day for many.

It sounds brilliant, I would have loved to have been there. I shall put this on my Christmas list!

Old Market Hereford Shops Close Early

I have a friend who works in one of those shops - I shan't name it - and they have said it's not worth paying staff until 8.00pm, when customers aren't coming through the doors. Simple economics I suppose. Perhaps now the excitement has died down, and the cold, dark evenings are upon us, late opening every night just aren't viable. Maybe things will pick up in the run up to Christmas. After all, traditionally the High Town shops stay open for late night shopping on Wednesdays, in the six weeks preceding the big day. -

Another case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. Why am I not surprised. -
I just love this! I particularly like the photos from the seventies, which show an extremely clean and tidy Hereford! Also of interest to me, was a few photos of Woodys Angling shop on Whitecross Road. On another thread, I had mentioned how the huge advertising board had been removed to reveal a beautiful, old advertising sign, and there are a couple of photos on this site showing it in its original glory, both with what is now the launderette building, but previously a home and garden store, and before the building was there! Will they be adding more images to this site?

Yet another "consultation" to take place when most folks are working. Anyone would think they don't want to hear that many views and opinions!! Hillbilly, I shall pick your brain if you don't mind! The questionnaires that you mention in your post above, are these available on line, or are they to be completed at the roadshows??- 54 replies

Blimey. I wonder if there is an end in sight now to this whole saga? What will happen to the chap who thinks he has legally bought Bodenham Manor? He must have paid a pretty penny for it, and really seems to be an innocent victim caught up in the middle of all of this. If you buy a car, and it later turns out that finance is owed on it, it is removed, and you are out of pocket. Would this be the same with this property?? -
New Black Bins, Max 4 Bags a Fortnight - f*** Off
dippyhippy replied to Biomech's topic in Open Forum
Mystery solved! Apparently the information given on the collection dates calendar, didn't match with the dates on the council website! Whether this issue will effect other areas, remains to be seen! -
Hi Bobby! If this is national policy, it might be worth starting a 38degrees petition, as well as emailing our local MP's.

Spate of Road Works in Hereford City at the moment.

Gosh John! That sounds like a very sensible solution.........hold that though 'til May, when hopefully good old common sense will get a bit more of a say around these parts! -

Monday 3rd November........they are still there! Traffic lights, cones and chaos! But at least that little patch of tarmac is being well protected! Has anybody heard when they will go? -
I have no clue Megilleland. It wouldn't be anything to do with the proposal to ditch the cabinet system, and bring in some sort of new committee system would it?? Shouldn't that idea be up for discussion at the next full council meeting, as it got bumped off the last one??

New Black Bins, Max 4 Bags a Fortnight - f*** Off
dippyhippy replied to Biomech's topic in Open Forum
Not quite sure what is happening in various parts of Whitecross.......loads of bins out on some of the side streets, and still plenty of bags out for those without access for the wheelies. I've just been out with the dog, and at 7.00pm, they are still there! I do hope folks who put their wheelie bins on the pavement for collection, then take them back a soon as they can......trying to negotiate narrow pavements littered with wheelie bins AND avoiding pavement cyclists(with NO lights) is proving quite tricky in the dark!! -

Blimey, I don't mind fortnightly collections........but try as I might, I cannot fathom HOW this is going to save money. We will still have a weekly service, just alternating between household waste and recycling. We are told that some of the lorries have half and half compartments, some don't. Some have the capacity to lift wheelie bins, others don't. We read that staff have been laid off, then they are recruiting. I would really like to see some sort of analysis of the "savings" that this exercise is supposed to be making. -

Hereford Fire Station Planning Application
dippyhippy replied to Aylestone Voice's topic in Open Forum
Hi Jim, I guess we would all like to see an independent report, detailing what exactly would need to be done to bring the original fire station up to scratch. I seem to recall reading that money was ONLY available for a new build. We have also been told that the fire station would be prepared to wait for an alternative site, and we also have seen documents detailing that the county bus station will be surplus to requirements in two years, rather than the five you mention. There has also been much talk about the proposed University being interested in this building. Failing that, I still think developers such as those who worked on the old general hospital or Victoria Eye Hospital, should be asked if they would be interested in purchasing it. At the end of the day, you just cannot plonk an industrial unit, slap bang into the middle of a conservation area. If we allow his to happen, then just about any building is going to be fair game. This building was standing long before any of us came along, and it should still be standing long after we have all long since departed. Above all, we need to value and cherish our cultural heritage. We need to reinvigorate these buildings, make them relevant to the times we live in with sympathetic restoration/renovation, but more than that, we need to be lovely thinking that we want to pass our city on to the next generation in a better state than it's currently in. That, is the biggest challenge of all. -
Saving The Working Boys Home *UPDATE*

Bumping this back to the front page. Given Jims post, on the planning thread, I think a good read through of all the reports, links and FOI contained within this thread, might be a good idea! -

That should make for an interesting event!

Oh poor chap, I didn't know that. I hope he's OK. I actually think he does a great job, and the fact that he will post information on here, makes a refreshing change. He doesn't have to do that, and it is appreciated.
