  1. Hi Magic! Nice to see you back! Even if folks get sent one, they can't be forced to use it.......can they?? Our house is completely unsuitable.....very little space at the front, and no rear access......so no bin for me! Hoorah!
  2. No. But just knowing this information would put them under an unbearable strain, which would probably result in a vast sum of money being paid to compensate!
  3. Absolutely fascinating! A real insight into this house,it's occupants and history. I'm glad I wasn't the only one to spot the cat in the window! Thanks for posting the link, Two Wheels. Will you be putting in a cheeky bid I wonder....???
  4. There is a "food area" at Gloucester Docks, and the row of restaurants there, are exactly the same as the row of restaurants that we now have at the OLM! It's identical. I do like Gloucester Docks as a place to visit though - beautiful old buildings, restored and brought back to life, giving them use and purpose once more. It's been done really well.
  5. 38 schools to close because of the NATO summit??? Good grief! Would it not be better to have all the little darlings under lock and key, I mean studying hard, and being fully supervised in the classroom, whilst the great and the good are gathering?? Surely there would be less likelihood of a John Prescott "egg incident" with all local teenagers engaged with the national curriculum????
  6. This is a shame. I thought I had read a few months back, that it had been given a bit of a makeover, and was open for business? They were even putting on live music, if I remember correctly. It's a pity it hasn't worked out. The old "spit and sawdust" pubs are few and far between. The Plough has had a face lift, and The Brit now has indoor toilets! A luxury indeed after having to brave the elements for donkeys years! But, lovely though it is now....I miss the old pub. It was like sitting in a friends front room, it was so small, and when it got late, and there were only the regulars left, half the time you just served yourself, and put the money on the side. One of the regulars would play the old piano in the corner, and we would all sing along, in a drunken fashion! Brilliant! How a local pub should be!
  7. Really?? Crikey, I find that astonishing! That surely is the equivalent of saying you can't source sand in the Sahara Desert........when you are based in the Sahara Desert! It just seems a ridiculous statement - I wonder just how hard they have tried? Or perhaps it comes down to cost. They say they will source locally, after all, it sounds good - but only if it's cheap!
  8. I cannot find this story on line, as Biomech stated it was in the printed version, I thought it would have appeared by now! The next edition will be out tomorrow......so if it makes it online, it will be last weeks news! Perhaps after the storm over HT coverage of Hoople, the editor decided not to put another controversial story up for comment?
  9. Fabulously funny! Almost as good as the talking dog!
  10. Richard Beeken is the new chief exec at Wye Valley NHS Trust, he took over from Derek Smith fairly recently.
  11. Steady on there, Biomech - think of your blood pressure! C'mon.....breathe with me......Deep breath, and...In with love, hold for 5 seconds,.......(exhale slowly) out with hate. Repeat x 5!! Honestly, it works a treat!!
  12. This article refers to Chris Bull, the former chief exec. Remind me again, wasn't this yet another example of folks who promise so much, deliver so little and get rewarded so richly?? According to this article, rewarded very richly indeed.
  13. A really brilliant piece, Megilleland. Thanks for sharing.
  14. Shhhhh! Don't tell anyone....but I know what it says! Ready? Further to the report,######################################################and so we have no option but to ######################################and conclude that the people solely responsible are########################and###########. We hope this brings the matter to a satisfactory conclusion. So......there you go! A genuine scoop! Wait a minute.......who the heck has redacted me???
  15. No Biomech, you will be expected to purchase one of their extortionately priced green refuse bags!
  16. Blimey Ubique! When I saw your "headline" I thought some chickens had been stolen!!
  17. Hmm. Shame the previous River Island premises aren't "helping Hereford stay on trend". Still a complete mess. I have no faith in the statement from Herefordshire Council, reassuring us that the situation is "resolved." As with many things in life, actions speak louder than words. And to date, there has been nothing.
  18. I have just read that Andrew Atkinson will stand down as Councillor at the next election, as he has been selected to stand as the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Wrexham, which is his home town. Regardless of his political colours, I think he was essentially a good bloke. I recall trying to persuade him to stand as an Independent, at a time when just one less Conservative Councillor would have had an impact.....but he was having none of it!!
  19. The number of self service tills in Sainsbury, has recently increased to eight. They still appear to "malfunction" when you tell the machine you have bought your own bags. "Verifying weight........please wait for assistance." Every time!
  20. Apologies, Megilleland ......we appear to have wandered off at a tangent again!
  21. That's the rumour Grid Knocker! Please don't try to guess which Cabinet member - I shall take offence if you think I have any features which bear a likeness to Harry - as Bobby has already stated, that his eyes are too close together! And didn't somebody else have ears that were a tad lop sided??? No. Please don't even hazard a guess. It will only end in tears. Mine probably.
  22. So would I Denise - it would save umpteen trips to the tip! But, I fear we would be the minority.....and the fly tipping would begin! As I said on the other thread covering this topic, I don't have a problem paying for green bags, but I do think we should be able to buy them from supermarkets - and not be held to ransom by having to purchase them from the council. We can purchase our own black bags, so why not the green ones???
  23. Along the same linesTwo Wheels, on the news the other week, was a report about Birmingham Councils "Garden Tax" where residents are charged £35.00 per year to take green waste. If you don't pay - they don't take it away. This has led to a huge increase in fly tipping. I wonder what "savings" this has made.
  24. Evening Roger - friendly is my middle name! I do think there is a difference between someone who say, is complaining about the lack of overalls in a DIY shop.....to posters who have genuine concerns, and evidence in some cases, of alleged wrong doing by a local authority, or public body.....don't you??
