Police Seize Cigarettes From 'Kurdish Owned' European Shop
dippyhippy replied to Colin James's topic in Police & Crime
Gosh, that does surprise me. Would that be the same if it was counterfeit cigarettes or tobacco?? It's quite alarming that a definite stop cannot be put to this. -
I quite agree, Biomech! £50,000 would be a not insignificant amount of money towards tidying this city up!!

Thanks for the clarification, Mark. Out of interest, just how many times would a premises have to be raided, before they can be closed down?? If it is the case that there is so much money to be made, that they are happy to accept the fines, then carry on regardless, at what point can other sanctions be enforced?? Hi Bobby! You know me....there's good and bad in every single walk of life.....I'm not about to change that opinion!!!! -
That's good to hear Chris! There are some very decent people, working hard, to try to make a difference to these people, and our City in general.

Absolutely Mole - there are a few pubs that sell tobacco "under the counter" as well. I would applaud any initiative that stops this in it's tracks! -
Phew! That's OK then......hankies at the ready, I just love a good weepie!!

Sounds like a lovely film, Cambo........it doesn't end up as a burger though, does it????

Petition: Reverse Decision To Reduce Grass Cutting
dippyhippy replied to Colin James's topic in Hereford Voice Projects
Not too keen on this then, Bobby...???? I do wonder exactly how many jobs have been / will be cut, to enable this "extra tier". I guess time will soon tell, if it's an effective way forward. Or not - as the case may be.- 427 replies

Well done Mark! Thanks for posting this information! It's always good to get the facts straight from the horses mouth, so to speak! -
There were many meetings at Plough Lane - one in particular springs to mind, when Councillor Price made his now infamous "I don't give a sh*t" comment. They were all so busy trying to pass the buck......they were hoping we wouldn't be able to see the wood for the trees......
-
So many welcomes to you, Drawings - it's great to see you posting!

Good Grief! Perhaps that photo should also be put on the "Who is responsible for trimming Trees" thread???? If it gets much bigger, folks will be picnicking underneath it!!

Petition: Reverse Decision To Reduce Grass Cutting

Hi Hillbilly! Welcome to Hereford Voice! Would you happen to know if there is a problem/issue that needs to be dealt with, will this have to be reported to the Locality Stewards directly, or would we still report via the council??- 427 replies

Hi Chris! You certainly do not come across as bitter - far from it! You had a very valid and good point to make, and you did so in a calm and reasonable manner, what's not to like about that???!! I would hope that whatever job you had in life, you were able to enjoy it, and I would hope that perhaps you have a loving and supportive family around you?? Family and friends are one of the most important things in life. Without them, life would be very bleak!

Police Seize Cigarettes From 'Kurdish Owned' European Shop

I view this very positively! It seems a ridiculous situation where the world and his brother knows what is going on......and yet it continues. Well done to the local police! -
Hi Chris, I'm genuinely sorry to hear about your epilepsy....I certainly can't imagine what it's like to live with a condition like that. Like many folks, I too have not had the most straight forward of lives - at one point I was juggling three jobs just to pay the mortgage. There was no such thing as tax credits back then, my other half had decided that the grass was actually greener on the other side, and had upped and left,(the rotten swine!) and working three jobs(whilst looking after the children as well!) was the only option if I didn't want to lose my home. Things have changed! But even during the most stressful few years of my life, I would never begrudge help being given to anyone, even when it wasn't available to me! Many of the folks you refer too, are homeless. This in turn can lead to alcoholism and drug taking. Some young people leave home to escape abuse, end up on the streets, and turn to drugs to blot things out......the reasons folk end up homeless and/or with an addiction are many fold. If your life was so incredibly miserable, wouldn't you be tempted to take something which takes the edge off reality?? I fully accept that this is not always the case, I'm just trying to give examples of how some people end up in this situation. Whilst many of us have lives which are far from perfect, I'm sure not many of us would want to swap places with those on the streets, and battling an illness which may very well end their lives prematurely. Don't forget, there are many, many functioning addicts in the world......doctors, dentists , teachers, every walk of life you can imagine. You probably come into contact with one on a regular basis......but you just don't know it. This really is a very small section of our community........to my mind, a bigger issue would be those who have never worked through choice, and are now bringing up the next generation to think it's OK not to have a job........but that's for another thread! Take care.

Peter Cook had the right idea. Lampoon them into change.

He's like a dog with a bone! Fair play to him, if there's anything underhanded going on here, the right man is on the case! I have every confidence that Paul will unravel the unsavoury goings on. -
The council are extremely good at removing trees we would like to keep, particularly Lime Trees, but not quite so adept at trimming those that have gone wild! Many folks also have enormous bushes/shrubs/trees in their front gardens, that are so overgrown it's difficult to see street sign names, and you often have to step off the pavement into the road to negotiate your way around them!

Nil Desperandum Biomech! When the elections are slightly more imminent, there will be Councillors jostling to answer questions and earn Brownie Points! I predict from January onwards, they will all be appearing more regularly!!
