Doesn't make sense, does it Roger?? There are a fair few locally within the NHS, The Council and indeed Head teachers who are on a par with this kind of salary. Can this sort of pay really be justified in a city the size of Hereford??

Evening Biomech! I knew as I typed that sentence, you would pick up on it!! Its certainly no easy task.... But I could never feel comfortable drawing a line and saying, that's it now....no more help. Once again, there are a multitude of reasons why people don't always find it easy to accept, or even want to engage with, any support which is offered - mental health issues being at the fore. I can't help but look at folks and think, that with just a different roll of the dice, that could be my brother, or niece, or son or daughter. I just refuse to believe that any person is beyond help, but I do accept that the points at which they will engage with any service, vary enormously. I absolutely agree there is a clear need for consequences, that is a given. I have, however, always found that the carrot far outweighs the stick!! If I had a magic wand, I would wave it. I'm sure we all would if we could.

I'm hoping it will have the same effect on the rather large, and very scary spider that's just disappeared underneath the sofa! I shall have to try and entice him out, or I won't sleep a wink tonight knowing he's lurking!!

Well said Flam! And never apologise for saying how you feel. There are many issues that we ALL should be jumping up and down about........and we do on here, but it does get exhausting!! I would say that the "common denominator" that those who post upon these pages have, is a real love of this city, and I do believe there are many many more........I just need to tease them out! Maybe the offer of a cheese and pickle roll will help?? It might be worth a try.......???

Hi Flam! I read this on Heckler when it first came out......I think it's very worthwhile for everyone to follow this link, and have a read through! Evening Roger! As our Bobby has commented before, they always sing the same song....."We need to pay the best, to get the best!" Trouble is, we've been paying the best for quite some time now......and have little if anything to show for it. These "temporary"contracts, seem to me to mean, that folks float in, mess up, float out and are never, ever held accountable for the failings they inevitably leave in their wake. They simply move on to the next hapless authority.......and we bring in another. Ever decreasing circles.........

Early intervention is key. In that respect Biomech, you are absolutely correct. I think we would all agree that a problem as complex as addiction , is never going to be an easy one to solve. Every case is unique, and the reasons folk have these issues are as individual as the people themselves. Don't forget, there are many "functioning addicts" within the community. These folks hold down responsible jobs, and have a veneer of "respectability", but they are battling the same demons. Whatever the cause, they all deserve some help and support, on whatever level they are prepared to accept it. I don't believe that anybody should ever be written off. A safe space could work well in Hereford. Where best to base it will be the biggest hurdle. ( Have to say, there has to be a better option than the graveyard.......!!)

I think he's fab! I'd put him on my Christmas Card list! A quick squid at the list of members who have viewed this page, tells me that jbfc and drawlings have visited......you are my target audience! Sometimes, just sometimes, I am lost for words. And they wonder why we complain so bitterly at the loss of much needed services. This is a slap in the face to every front line worker who has lost their job, to every disabled person and their families who have had their care/ respite slashed, and to every single council tax payer in this county. "We have no money" is always the cry......yet still they find a little more to increase the pay of those who already earn a significant amount.

Hi Mole! I would agree with your post! This is definitely worth a try! Other authorities are also trialling "safe spaces" schemes, and early indications show that they can have a positive effect.

Afternoon Biomech!! What I want, what I really, really want...is for those who have taken the trouble to sign up, to get stuck in to all the debates and discussions!! I realise not all topics are going to have mass appeal, but I kind of assume that folks who do sign up, do so because they have a genuine interest in their community, and all that goes on within it!! I know myself, that when I haven't logged on for a day or two, it's always great to catch up on what's been happening......this could be even better if we had more opinions! It also means that Hereford Voice will become a must visit place for folks to find out what's going on, particularly so when HT seems to be getting quite choosy over which stories have comments enabled, and some very news worthy stories aren't investigated at all!! (And while I have your attention Biomech.......do you EVER check your messages...???????)
