Saving The Working Boys Home *UPDATE*
dippyhippy replied to dippyhippy's topic in Hereford Voice Projects
And he's a passionate advocate for great architecture! Good thought Cambo.....and much more impressive than Roger Whittaker! -
Don't get me started on the state of our Children's Services, Roger! They have had more than 18 months to get improvements put in place, OFSTED have only just arrived, and already they are "acknowledging" that there is still much to be done. Front line staff are fabulous....I would still like to know precisely how many agency managers are still in place though.....

Saving The Working Boys Home *UPDATE*

We could do with someone "High Profile" banging the drum for the Working Boys Home. My only link to anybody remotely well known, is my old Mum used to live next door to Roger Whittakers parents.....yes, he who could really whistle a tune! Other than that, Dad once shared the stage with the Wurzels! Anyone do any better.....let's be honest, it shouldn't be hard! -
Blimey! This could be yet another can of worms. I wish the HT reporters drank in the same pubs as you, with the notable exception of Bill Tanner, none of them seem capable of sniffing out a newsworthy story, let alone undertake any sort of investigative journalism. If there is even a grain of truth in this, I want to know about it.

I really do give this a cautious welcome.....it sounds incredibly positive. The "experts"on High Town, are surely the business owners, and if they can get this up and going and make much needed improvements, then I'm all for it. If they can cut the council out of the loop all together, so much the better. Let's face it, this scheme stands a much better chance of succeeding if the council keep their noses out! ( Obvious exceptions to this apply.....Glenda, Jim, Mark et al!!)

Anyone know if that Wagamama place is still due to open? I haven't heard any mention of it for a while...... -
Whats on in Hereford and the surrounding area for May

Thanks for posting this, some really interesting events. I particularly like the sound of a "Literary tour of Herefordshire." That one sounds like a great day out.....even better with a pub lunch!! -
Cheer up Bobby! It could have been worse. Much worse. We could have won!! At least next year it will be Austria having to foot the bill for this europewide warble - a - thon!!

Hearty vegetarian fare, that's what you need Bobby! There comes a time when only a cauliflower cheese and broccoli bake will do.....this, I feel is one of them!! All ingredients can be purchased from The Butter Market.....neutral ground between High Town and The OLM. It's a sure fire cease fire on a plate!! In the interests of marital harmony, and your diminishing waistline, it's got to be worth a try!! -
Thank you for providing that information Glenda, and clarifying the situation.
-
I still haven't been to the OLM, but judging from comments written on a few threads, I'm guessing there may have been a better place to site this new cash point.....???
-
Good Grief! Even worse than I thought! How on earth can this be justified...? Thank God, that on this occasion, it's not the good folk of Hereford footing the wages bill!
-
As I spend quite a lot of time in "Dreamland" myself, I would endorse your suggestion GDJ, and echo your sentiments re the deceased. There is a time when a little respect is called for.

Hells Bells! 130 grand, for nine months work - "changing and transforming" Swindon. I wonder if the good folk of Swindon are happy about this......?? Nice to see you posting again Flam, I've missed your input!

Anyone know anything about the group "Save Britain's Heritage"? Apparently they have a buildings at risk list, and according to an article on BBC Coventry and Warwickshire, they have been instrumental in helping to save two buildings that were at high risk of being demolished. At this stage in the proceedings, would it be worth trying to highlight the plight of The Working Boys Home, to them?? Or am I clutching at straws?? -
Very interesting article over at HT online, "Herefordshire Council reviews its future with Hoople." Some fine examples of council maths here....particularly in the comments underneath!! No word yet on Mike Dearings replacement......?? I wonder why.......
-
Good Grief! I expect Bobby knows all about this - he has hand reared ferrets, and a couple of tame 'raptors!! I wouldn't mind betting that his street act is top of the bill!

Plans for new gym & trampoline facility in Rotherwas
dippyhippy replied to JudSawyer's topic in Open Forum
Certainly do Biomech!! I had a near death experience involving a rubber ring with a slow puncture......it's an episode in my life that I still find difficult to talk about.....!! Oh, the trauma! I only ever trusted armbands after that, mind you, at 43 I find people do stare a bit these days!! -
Whilst I am pleased to hear from Biomech, that somebody is permanently sweeping up around the OLM, and having just learnt from stupid frustration that chewing gum is being blasted away before it even touches the ground, I do feel that in a very short space of time the difference between the OLM and High Town is going to be decidedly noticeable. One gleaming, one not! And I read on HT, that the street sweeper, who I see almost every morning come wind or rain, has been given his marching orders. He does his job, a job not many of us would perhaps choose to take on, and he does it well. Now even he is to be replaced, by some sort of machine that apparently can't navigate around street furniture, such as benches!! How much is this useless bit of kit going to cost?? And more importantly, what's going to happen to the lovey guy who has swept up after us for years and years??

I mentioned my penchant for the word "relish" once, on a HT thread....everybody joined in, even a couple of councillors!
