  1. Well, Yazor Road verges were strimmed today....or should I say hacked at. There was so much grass blowing around and across the road, it almost looked worse! The schedule they are working to, is less than half in previous years.....where DOES all that money go, and why was this agreed AFTER Balfour Beatty had been given the contract?? Surely this sort of thing should already have been negotiated and agreed? I may be missing a trick here, but it seems to me that BB have got the money, and are now doing less.......
  2. I could not agree more. Obscene amounts of money are being paid out. There needs to be a "ceiling" salary. How can a Primary Head be earning more than the Prime Minister of the country??
  3. No apology needed Cambo - I am always getting in a muddle! I haven't ventured into OLM territory either.....mind you, I haven't been in town much either....too much work makes Dippy a dull blogger!!
  4. Bobby, as long as you have High Town beer, High Town smokes, and High Town pork rind, you'll have all food groups covered!! GridKnocker - your maths cannot be faulted! At this price I would expect it to be made of gold.....not unlike the yellow brick road in The Wizard Of Oz!! Now, who doesn't have a heart, who doesn't have courage, and who doesn't have a brain.....??????
  5. Hi Pete, that meeting sounds very positive indeed! Good to hear that there is a group who could do something about the shocking appearance of our city, but it does beg the question, why are we paying Balfour Beatty so much, when another group is preparing to step up to the plate, and do their job for them! I haven't been to the new development, I am a tad concerned that in Biomech's original post, he tells us that within Debenhams, there is a Dorothy Perkins, this rings alarm bells. Could another High Street store disappear from High Town? Also, have we heard if the Fat Face store will remain in High Town, along with Clarks shoes?
  6. There's definitely more of them around than there used to be Amanda, I'm positive of that!
  7. Absolutely agree! I looked the other day, to find a thread about the verges, but comments were closed on it! All the verges on White cross Road, Three Elms, Roman Road, and as Roger said, Aylestone Hill, are in an extremely overgrown state. Aylestone Hill in particular, is one of the main routes into the city, and creates a dreadful first impression for visitors. The whole place has a shabby, uncared for feeling, which does nothing to encourage folks to take some pride in where they live. I actually go out with a broom, and sweep my street-much to the amusement of a few of my neighbours, but I'm afraid I shan't be able to take the lawn mower up and down the White cross Road verges - for a start,my extension lead just isn't long enough!
  8. Sadly, it's all true. Bobby has hit all the nails firmly on the head. But! We can still exercise our democratic right to object - whether that be written letters of objection when the plans go in for permission, or something a little more direct.........
  9. Very Interesting !! Thanks for posting this, Aylestone Voice.
  10. One of the problems Cambo, is that under Government rules and regulations, any building that has been used as an educational establishment, and is designated "surplus to requirements" MUST be given over to a Free School if required. No matter how valuable that asset is.....Black friars, was I believe, valued at 1.2 million pounds...... And we all know how that particular story has ended!
  11. This is completely unacceptable. IF, the councils decision to evict those using these premises, is because of another Free School, then this is indeed a very worrying trend. This building, as really was Black friars, is most definitely NOT surplus to requirements. I would hope that other councillors may have more information that they are able to share. I wonder what time scale we are talking about? The Robert Owen School, was a long time in coming to fruition. Whoever the new "tenant" is, I find it extremely worrying that a well used community facility such as this, could potentially be lost.
  12. Thanks for this Megilleland! I think I shall put Rupert on my Christmas card list!!
  13. Well, St James end of town is largely residents only/permit parking, and a lot of Whitecross side streets seem to be occupied by Plough Lane workers, since the council introduced parking charges there!!
  14. Afternoon Bill! I was wondering if the food outlets would be open after the late night film screening, so that folks could grab a bite to eat after?? I suppose we would need the cinema opening times as well!!
  15. I agree Biomech - parking charges are the councils favoured method of raising money!
  16. It's the evening / Sunday parking rate which I find very irksome. I do think folks going to the cinema will find this steep - certainly compared to the bus station prices! Anyone know what the food outlet opening hours will be??
  17. "If you build it, they will come.....but probably just the once!"
  18. Afternoon Colin! Are you intending to send out a "reminder" to those councillors who haven't responded?? There are a quite a few whose response I am looking forward to reading!!
  19. Knowing Biomechs' sense of humour - this title was posted with tongue firmly in cheek!!
  20. Reading the comments underneath, I see Aylestone Voice has asked the question, who are Here For Hereford. I have to say, I too, am curious for more information about this group.
  21. Just spoken to a friend who lives by the Courtyard Theatre. They had no power until gone midnight!! (Have to say though Biomech, when I read your "headline", my first thought was, "Wow! The campaign has worked!")
  22. More evidence that other cities can get it right! Most authorities see the value in protecting their heritage, and reinvigorating it for another generation to enjoy. It's not rocket science. With a bit of vision, a touch of common sense, and an ability to look to the future and see beyond any short term gain, it can be achieved.....unless of course, you happen to live in Hereford!
  23. This is the first I've heard about it Megilleland ! I would be interested to know which councillors were in attendance, and what issues were discussed.
  24. A big Well Done to Hereford United! Thanks Colin, for posting this....it's great to see such a household name supporting the little guys!
