That can't be part of this project though, as they are restoring rather than replacing signs. But what you say is a concern Ragwert. Original 1950's road signs, are actually quite collectible.....check out the prices for cast iron ones on eBay. I would always prefer to see the originals in place. They are a lot sturdier for a start, as well as looking much better than modern replacements.

Saving The Working Boys Home *UPDATE*
dippyhippy replied to dippyhippy's topic in Hereford Voice Projects
Another beautiful building!! Don't worry, Cambo.....Megilleland has already started another thread about this !! Our eyes are already on it! I am away Monday until Friday, so will catch up with you all when I return! -
Well done to those involved - small things make a huge difference. There was another story this week on HT, all about the fact that there will be less money to be spent on things like grass cutting. Some interesting points made by Cllr Liz Harvey.

This is a lovely building ! I walk past it most days. I am not sure, Megilleland, but maybe the reason is something to do with parking. In Whitecross, parking is predominantly on street. I understand that any new development within this area has to have adequate parking. There is no outdoor space to speak of with this building. Maybe that is the issue for anybody who may perhaps be thinking of converting it. Like I say, I don't know, but this would be my best guess!!

Many thanks for the kind words, Magic and Cambo! Much appreciated. The Angry Man. There was a very angry man, Who worked himself into a lather, Who it was, I could not say, As he was in a balaclava!! That last verse is for you, Cambo!! Hope you don't bump into any more angry men!!

Now THIS really is an accident waiting to happen, and a serious one too. -
No worries!! Always happy to oblige!

Ode To Harry Bramer. I've met a chap called Harry, You all know who I mean, Eyes too close together, The neatest haircut ever seen. Besides the eyes and haircut, Harry has problems with his ears, They don't appear to listen, They don't know how to hear. Oblivious to our protests, Harry's convinced himself he's right, And ploughs on with his wretched plan, To swap The Boys Home Site. I've read all of his excuses, They only make me cringe. He needs to listen to the public, And get both his ears syringed!! By D. Hippy.

Traffic Lights Campaign - Part -Time Lights 7pm-7am

"..Just a bus stop, as pointed out on another forum" That would have been me, Magic!! Well done Colin for persevering with this. There is so much support for your idea, that quite frankly it beggars belief that it hasn't been done. I shall sign your petition!- 82 replies

Many thanks Magic! I have ordered 8! One for every day of the week, and a glitzy "going out" one with sparkly bits! The sort of balaclava you might see on Strictly Come Dancing.....should balaclavas ever make it onto the show! I decided on subtle shades,( being a kindly soul, I wouldn't want Harry going out in anything too unsightly!) so, beige, mushroom, taupe, more beige and soft greens. There is one in day-glo yellow though ...safety first!!

Bravo Bobby! You keep telling it as you see it! I have had a word with my trusty contact at The Whitecross Weavers Guild, and as orders have all but dried up for The Jesse Norman Tea towel, they are more than happy to take on the task of producing balaclavas, with eye holes closer together! Now, there's an offer Harry would be foolish to ignore! It would keep everyone happy!!

Councillors Responses To Lights Out Trial

Blimey Cambo! That's a bit technical for me! Traffic lights that talk to each other...... "I saw that Harry Bramer the other day...he soon saw red when I changed colour!" -

Thanks Denise! I cannot get onto HT this evening to look! It was fine this afternoon....a few hours later, it just refused to finish loading, then it froze and I couldn't do anything! I had to resort to what every technophobe does.....the tried and tested method of turning everything off, then turning it all back on again!! Don't worry Ubique.....the letter you have found, must be the one JB sent in the other week! I expect the latest one will be up in a day or two! -
Councillors Responses To Lights Out Trial

Agreed Jim! I think folk are frightened of the unknown, and just what to stick with what they understand. We need some visionaries within the cabinet. Hopefully next May, we'll have them.....they certainly aren't there at the moment! -

Letter from John Bothamley, from HCS in today's HT. I don't know if this is online yet. I would hope that in the event The Boys Home is demolished, these stones are saved, and relaid somewhere on the site. Perhaps with some inscription on another stone as to the history of the land the new build is sited on. But....it's not quite over yet folks!! There are still a few hoops to be jumped through before all is lost , so let's not give up yet!! -
Good Grief, Bobby! If what Cambo says is correct, you need to be extremely vigilant when opening the door to your three bedroom semi, when a stranger tippy toes up your garden path, and tap, tap taps at your main entrance! Have you considered extra locks? Maybe CCTV? Or, letting the wife answer....armed with her trusty frying pan!!

It's a pretty big site Biomech - about twice the side of the Fire Station site! According to the article in this weeks Journal , this land swap "ensures the council gets the market value equivalent for the site." Hmmmm..... Council Maths at work again.....!! -

How lovely to have such a positive thread started! I am really glad they took the trouble to track you down, and discuss the issues you raised. This forum is a brilliant, community facility! -
Blimey! What a shocker! I thought this was my old history teacher at first glance!! This isn't a genuine Banksy, though is it??

Good Evening Smartieno1! Whilst I absolutely respect the fact that everybody has a right to express their own views, can we stop for just one minute and think about the marvellous post that Our Bobby has produced?? It's a wonderfully light hearted lampoon, of a local politician....but there is much skill in its construction! There's most definitely an art to writing in Bobbys' particular style! I think the key to replying/responding to a post written by the inimitable Bobby, is to keep it light!! There is nothing to say you shouldn't start a new thread, post your views in your style, and allow anyone who wishes, to respond to your comments there! In a world where we are often swamped with serious issues, which merit serious comment, isn't it nice, that just now and then, we get a gem of a gift in the form of one of Bobby's pieces, where we can all be just a tad silly?? After all, Silliness is next to Godliness isn't it???!!!!!

I know precisely what you mean about the cannon! Being fired from a cannon across the Lugg, is a fate reserved for very few.....Jarvis was the original recipient, I believe, and there have been a few who have come close.....but not Harry I feel. I am slightly concerned about your comment regarding hairstyles. Are you being fair??! How sure are you that this IS Harry's hair, and not a syrup?? C'mon Bobby! What other research have you done??
-
Anyways....moving on! Bobby, I howled with laughter reading this piece! Brilliant! There's no way Harry will be back next year......folk will look at him twice now, and think to themselves, "Bobby's right-they ARE too close together"

Saving The Working Boys Home *UPDATE*

I think the big plan is to bulldoze High Town, including the Black and White house, and turn it into one enormous surface level car park. This will benefit the thousands of extra shoppers that the council have assured us will travel many miles to visit their beloved OLM development. Of course, in reality, a few will turn up. Laugh at the salt covered walls, grimace at the state of our roads, and despair when they realise there are no toilets. They will not return. Not even for a Nando's.....after all, they probably have one of those in their home town! And a supermarket.... And a Debenhams... And a cinema...!! Why would they return??
