As part of the great family silver sell off/southern link slush fund, it seems that Widemarsh Common is next - public notice in this weeks HT - www.herefordshire.gov.uk/media/3892271/widemarsh_common.pdf

The order is as clear as, which is no doubt is intended, but whatever it is, it does encompass the whole common.

Historic England - Heritage at Risk

Part of an ongoing scam. Other public open space disposed of here. What does the licence allow and for how long and what is the financial benefit to the licencee if any?

OK.This is what I found out.My contact has heard nothing about the land being sold.
Council has handed over Widemarsh Common to the Football side of Lads Club on a 25 year lease for £1 a year.
Part of the deal was that the road and boundary fence were repaired prior to the lease being taken on and that all future repairs
must be done by the lads club.

What is the 'net' gain for The Council over 25 years if they lease the land for £25 .... ? Seems the Lads Club may have got a bargain there by your information ....

Unfortunately the council have huge debts to clear and reduced funds from central government because of the previous Labour government. Money has to be raised and selling off these assets is only a quick fix and part of the solution. More to follow

The previous government was a Tory and Lib Dems one. Do you really think the tories are any better than Labour? No difference in any of them to be honest.

Given that Historic England list this site on the 'Heritage at risk' register, stating that its condition is 'Very bad', its vulnerability 'High' and its trend  'Deteriorating', it would seem the Council duck out of the responsibility for rectifying this for the next 25 years. Let's hope the Lads Club are aware of what they are taking on.

How many people in Hereford realise the connection with Widemarsh Common and this man.

St John Kemble (August 22), a much-loved Catholic priest whose execution was horribly botched

John Kemble, alias Holland, was born at Rhydicar Farm, St Weonard’s, Herefordshire in 1599.

Appears to be a difference in how he was executed between the articles above.
